Ground Allspice is the dried, ground berry of an evergreen tree. It is reddish-brown in color and has a pleasantly fragrant aroma. The name reflects the blended pungent tastes of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Allspice is most commonly used in desserts such as spice cakes, cookies, muffins and breads. Try a sprinkle in apple sauce, fruit compotes or fruit sauces.
